Cleopatra’s Love’s:

Cleopatra was born in 69 BC. She became a ruler of Egypt at the age of 15. She committed suicide when she was 38. In that brief period of time she lived a full life. By the time she decided to end her life she had 4 children.

Her first love was Julius Caesar, ruler of the Roman empire. She was 21 when she wanted desperately to meet him.  It is said she secretly smuggled herself into his palace rolled up in a rug to meet him. Nine months later she gave birth to a baby boy. At the time Caesar was already married. It became common knowledge of their on going affair among the Romans. When Cleopatra visited Rome from Egypt, Caesar actually put her up in one of his country homes. The Romans were appalled. Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. Cleopatra was 25.

Following Caesars death, Marc Antony who was a general in Caesars army sent for Cleopatra to assess her loyalty to Rome. He wanted her support in a war he was planning.

When he met her, he was so overtaken with her that he returned to Alexandria with her to spend the winter. Soon after, Cleopatra gave birth to twins, a boy and girl. Marc Antony was the father.

Four years later, Marc Antony visited Alexandria again. He was still in love with Cleopatra and they were married soon after, even though he was already married to a woman in Rome. They made their home in Alexandria and Cleopatra had another child by Marc Antony.

Marc Antony continued his role as general and fought many battles in wars, being away from home. At a point in time, Marc Antony became aware that Cleopatra may not have been loyal to his cause. Cleopatra heard of Marc Antony’s claim that she betrayed him, so she sent word to him that she had died. He in return so remorseful for her death, stabbed himself in the stomach with a sword. A messenger got word to Cleopatra of what had happened. She desperate to make amends sent back a message to let him know that in fact she was still alive. Dying, Marc Antony arrived in Alexandria to see Cleopatra, rejoicing that she was alive. He died in her arms on August 10, 30 BC.

Two days later, Cleopatra dressed in her finest attire adorned with gold jewelry is said to have committed suicide by inviting a either one or two cobras to bite her. There ended the great Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile, dead at the age of 38 on August 12, 30 BC.
